Foster
Be the stop between rescue and forever
We have no kennels. Every dog we save lives with a foster family, learning to trust people and be part of a home, until their adopters find them.

What's involved
You give the love. We cover the rest.
HBR pays for all vet care through our approved vets. Fosters bring patience, routine, and a spot on the couch.
Maybe you're thinking about adding a dog to your family, want to make a difference for one in need, or recently lost a pet and miss having a dog around. Fostering fits all of those.
- Help with house training, socialization, manners and basic obedience
- Get to know your foster, so we can match them with the right family
- Take them to vet appointments and surgeries, which HBR pays for
- Care for them in line with our foster agreement
- Join HBR meetups and events when you can
- Get ongoing support from experienced volunteers
We hope fosters can provide food, but we often receive donated food and treats and are happy to share.
Requirements
Before you apply
21 or older
Foster parents must be at least 21, and everyone in the home should be on board.
In Ontario
Our foster homes are all over the province, and some trips to the vet are a drive.
No dog parks
HBR dogs aren't allowed at off-leash or dog parks. You'll sign a waiver saying so.
Fixed resident dogs
We don't place fosters in homes with intact dogs, unless for medical reasons or a breeding contract.
